I am the proud aunt of the most special little boy in the world. Lucca Lynn Moore is my nephew. He was born on January 4, 2009. At 7:10 pm I saw him for the very first time and I fell instantly in love. He lived at my house with my parents until he was three months old. In March of last year he and my sister joined her husband in Virginia. I miss Lucca and Katy very much but I get to visit them often. When I go to visit I take the Amtrak trains from Salisbury, NC to Fredericksburg, VA. He is my favorite subject to photograph and I have taken over 1,100 pictures of him since he was born!
Washington, DC is my favorite city for a number of reasons. There are 19 Smithsonian Institute Museums in and around Washington, DC and I have seen five of them. I have also seen many of the monuments and memorials devoted to great leaders and those who have served our country in times of crisis. I have also been able to tour the Capital Building and the Pentagon. To get around efficiently, I have had to learn how to use the Metro. Since I have always lived in Hudson, using the Metro and knowing where to go and how to get there was a challenge but I have grown to love it. Millions of people ride the Metro daily to and from work. The policemen and people who work at popular DC attractions are very friendly and helpful. Whenever I have gotten confused or didn’t understand how to do something (such as purchasing my Metro fare) someone was always willing to help me.
I have a fantastic job.
I have worked at an Aquatic and Fitness Center for 6 years. I Lifeguard and teach swim lessons as well as First Aid, CPR and Lifeguarding. The best parts of my job are teaching the many different classes that we have at the Aquatic Center. In the summers I teach up to five classes per day. I taught nearly 100 children over the course of the summer last year. I have seen several of those young swimmers move on to the swim team. Two of my former swim students swim for their high school and I was able to teach one in my first Lifeguarding class.
Sometimes children or adults get into trouble in the water or get sick or hurt around the pool. It is my job to help them in any way that I am able. Some of the people who come to the Aquatic Center say that I am very compassionate because it makes me very sad to see someone get hurt or sick and I do whatever I can to help them.
As long as I can remember my friends and family have called me ‘Mouth of the South’ because I can out talk just about anyone I know. I really enjoy meeting new people and finding out more about them. When I was young I would make good grades in school but my teachers frequently complained that I talked too much. As I grew older, I learned when it was good to be talkative and when I needed to do more listening.
I do not often plan in advance.
I have been known to decide to go on a trip or outing a few hours before I leave. I am very spontaneous and I don’t like to plan things too far in advance, especially my trips. If I am not working over a long weekend I will find myself hopping in the car to go visit Lucca in Virginia, go to DC or visit friends in Asheville, NC.
I have a secret…
I am afraid of the dark! I am 23 years old and I still sleep with a nightlight on and my door cracked. When I am in a dark room with no light I cannot see very well and I am afraid I will bump into something or trip and fall. Everyone has something they are afraid of but we can’t let those things keep us from doing what we like to do.
Some people love thunder but I don’t really like it at all. I think thunder is like a big angry man in the sky yelling harsh words. So, when it thunders I try to think of the things I love or play a really fun song on my iPod. It thunders almost everyday in the summer when I am working at the pool and that means the kids have to get out of the pool early. That doesn’t make anyone happy.
Like the thunder, I don’t like it when people speak in a hateful tone to others or shout in anger. Everyone gets angry sometimes but things go much more smoothly when people speak calmly to each other and resolve their differences that way. Even I have to remember that from time to time.
How would you know me if you saw me?
I am very short with dark brown hair and sparkly blue eyes. I have freckles from cheek to cheek that get much darker in the summer. But my favorite feature is my smile. I love to smile and let out a giggle and when I see an old friend I grin from ear to ear. Spring and summer are my favorite seasons and my cheeks get rosy in the early summer sun. If you see me outside I almost always have on my favorite sunglasses. My leopard print, ‘Hollywoods’ speak volumes about their owner!

I love the way you did this page. Very creative, did you list that as a quality? Great job and it was fun to read.
Your about me page is so adorable. The photograph with your hair pulled on top makes me think of the story you told us all in class about Baby Balooga. I could just imagine you singing that song in church! Of course the photos of Lucca are precious and sweet.
I think that your knowlegde of DC will help you out alot in the classroom! I think that sharing that you are afraid of the dark will be a cute way to help your students talk about their fears.
Oh,it is okay to be scared of the dark. A lot of people are. Who knows what is lerking in the darkness. I too do not plan in advance. I like to fly by the seat of my pants very often. I sometimes wish I was not like this but what can you do?
